A Note About Training
The Susquehanna Council, BSA takes great pride in the high quality of our program for all Scouting units in Clinton, Lycoming, Northumberland, Snyder, and Union Counties. As such, our council requires that every registered leader in the Cub Scouting, Scouts BSA, Venturing, and Exploring programs are trained in the delivery of Scouting’s aims and methods, based on the position of leadership for which they are registered.
For most leadership positions, free training is available online via e-learning modules at www.my.scouting.org, and a volunteer is not required to be registered before taking the course. Here is a list in PDF format of all positions that require training and the free online courses that will fulfill the requirements.
For positions that require certain voting privileges (Chartered Organization Representatives) and outdoor leadership (Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, Webelos Leaders, and all Venturing Leader training), in-person training courses are offered regularly. The training opportunities currently available in the council can be found here. If in consulting the calendar, you don’t find a course that meets your schedule, please contact your District Training Committees or Council Training Chair. Contact information is listed above.
Training Tools
Special privileges are afforded to Unit “Key 3” members on https://my.scouting.org. Committee Chairs, Chartered Organization Representatives, and Scoutmasters/Cubmasters/Crew Advisors now have access to the “Training Manager,” which shows an up-to-date roster of all unit leaders and the training courses that are on file with the Council Service Center. Additionally, these unit leaders have access to mark as complete the training courses that have been demonstrated but are not updated in a person’s record. If you have questions about how this works, please contact your Unit Commissioner and the District Training Committee for advice and leadership on how to use this function.
